KUNSBLIKKIE - ARTS TIN
A natural amphitheatre formed part of the gorge on our site where we constructed an open-air theatre. This is where children can learn to interact, share, entertain and express themselves through music, dance and theatre and an important aspect of our Youth Programme is drama.
Oudtshoorn hosts an annual Arts Festival and our unique amphitheatre is an ideal Township venue for it, hopefully to generate much-needed revenue and also to bring the arts to the poorer communities.
The Arts Festival – known locally as the KKNK – uses our premises for workshops and rehearsals and our children receive free tickets for shows and participate in many festival events. Over the past few years the children have learnt to make paper lanterns, taken part in street parades and enjoyed dance workshops, theatre sports, clown workshops, concerts, exposure to their favourite TV stars and in 2014 the Centre hosted the KKNK community initiatives project
ST. LUIGI SPORT
Sport plays an important role at St. Luigi’s as we not only play sport but each game/training session is used to guide children and youth to develop life principles and skills. There is a growing interest in soccer amongst the youth in our township, but we also play a lot of cricket, volleyball, basketball and netball (we have a multipurpose court).
